HEROES CAMPAIGN
Whether you're just starting out in your career or are already an experienced professional, Microsoft offers expert-led training modules through its online Virtual Academy, designed to help individuals sharpen their technical skills and unlock new career opportunities. To drive new memberships, Microsoft wanted to create a campaign that fully embraced the joy of “geeking out”, tapping into the passion, curiosity, and enthusiasm that defines developers, IT professionals, and tech enthusiasts.
To bring the six training modules to life, the campaign introduced six unique superhero characters, each representing a different area of expertise. These heroes became collectible mascots, with users unlocking a new character as they completed each module, adding a gamified and rewarding layer to the learning experience.
The concept extended across multiple areas, including character-led visuals on the Microsoft website, animated banners and digital content. It also came to life physically through collectible stress toys with Top Trumps-style cards and branded T-shirts, creating a fun, cohesive campaign that blended learning with play.
